With its large living room, well-equipped kitchen-diner opening onto the rear patio and spacious double bedrooms, this village house has a wonderfully light and airy feel inside - with thick stone walls which keep it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. We've kept many original features to retain the authentic French feel of the house as much possible, whilst bringing it into the present day. The house has a tasteful blend of traditional French and modern furniture, and features a number of original oil paintings by local artist and friend Richard de Faut. The lawned garden and newly-tiled patio area to the rear of the house provide plenty of space to eat, drink, sit in the sun or relax in welcome shade when things really hot up! Enthusiastic chefs enjoying the well-equipped kitchen are welcome to cut selections from the range of herbs growing alongside the old well. Note that although only two bedrooms are available for rental - a decision based largely on the bathroom provision - the house is actually a three-bedroom property, and this is reflected in the ample room sizes on the ground floor. We'd prefer you to have plenty of space to relax in, rather than trying to fit as many people into the house as physically possible! We can however provide a fold-out single bed suitable for an additional child or teenager at no extra cost if required.   Looking for a holiday in the Dordogne my wife and I found www.dordognebreak.com and subsequently booked a week at Callière in June 2008. Callière allows you to sample all the delights of village life here in St Méard de Gurçon. Just two doors away is our village grocery shop, which doubles up as a 'buvette', where you can take a drink with the locals around the table at the back, and around the corner are Le Torchon Brûle and Le Pressoir, our village restaurants and bar, a hundred yard stroll to excellent food and drink!

Or pop over to the boulangerie and pick up freshly baked baguettes, croissants and pastries from the traditional brick ovens.

Perhaps you'll spot a colourful French wedding party at the church across the road, or partake in a game of boules beneath the shade of the trees in front of the church.

From the village there are many walks down empty lanes, through vineyards and woodland. Keep a look out for wild mushrooms in season for an extra special breakfast!

But above all, wind down and enjoy a gentler pace of life.

A €150 deposit is required to secure the booking, with the balance to be paid at least one month in advance. We also request a damage deposit of €150, payable 2 weeks prior to your holiday, which will be refunded within one week of departure.

Your reservation will be held for a week pending the arrival of your deposit payment. If payment is not received we reserve the right to re-let the property.

In the unlikely event of a clash your deposit will be fully refunded. When prompted please include a message with your payment stating your required dates.

*Please state required dates - check below or call us for availability. Deposits subject to a 14-day "cooling-off" period during which time they are 100% refundable at your instruction. Thereafter 50% is refundable until 4 weeks prior to your holiday. Beyond this time reservation fees are non-refundable.
